The Tourette Association of America is the leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to making life better for all people affected by Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders. Through education, advocacy, research, and direct support, TAA works to increase awareness, advance care, and strengthen resources for individuals, families, professionals, and communities nationwide.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Senior Director of Finance and Accounting to lead TAA’s financial operations and serve as the organization’s senior financial leader. This is a key leadership role that will oversee accounting, reporting, budgeting, compliance, grants management, audit preparation, investment oversight, and financial systems in support of TAA’s mission and long-term sustainability.

The Senior Director will partner closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, external auditors, investment advisors, and department leaders to ensure strong financial stewardship, transparency, and compliance.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:- Lead day-to-day finance and accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, financial analysis, and reporting for leadership and the Board.
- Oversee nonprofit accounting practices, restricted funding, donor requirements, and grant-related financial reporting.
- Manage federal, state, foundation, and corporate grant compliance, including federal funding requirements and Uniform Guidance.
- Lead the annual audit process and support preparation of IRS Form 990.
- Monitor investment activity, reserve funds, and financial policies in partnership with investment advisors and the Finance Committee.
- Strengthen financial systems, reporting tools, workflows, and technology in a fully remote work environment.
- Supervise and support finance and accounting staff while collaborating across departments.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will bring:- 8–10 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, restricted funding, and federal grant compliance.
- Experience managing federal grants, audits, Form 990 preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow.
- Experience with investment oversight, reserve funds, or endowment assets.
- Comfort working in a remote environment and using cloud-based financial systems and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- High level of integrity, discretion, accountability, and sound judgment.
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with QuickBooks.
- Experience working with national nonprofit organizations.
- Experience managing CDC or other federal agency grants.
- Experience supporting Board Finance Committees and Audit Committees.
